Don’t Forget Emotional Wellness

Last week, I did Adria Decorte’s Clarity Challenge. On day five, we all did a video about something you had an opinion on. My opinion was on the importance of emotional wellness. We are more then a physical body. We are also an emotional body. Sometimes we have to hold still and feel. Let go of what is not working for you and embrace the truth- You are whole perfect and complete!

Menopause: A Vicious Trick by Mother Nature

Menopause: How to Start Feeling Like Yourself Again. An article by According to the Mayo Clinic, menopause is, “the permanent end of menstruation and fertility, defined as occurring 12 months after your last menstrual period.” According to women currently experiencing menopause, it’s actually an evil and viscous trick by Mother Nature. One in which your body almost instantly becomes unrecognizable, as you spend the next several years fighting mood swings and hot flashes, while praying to God that the medication you’re taking to help convince your body it’s actually 33 again, doesn’t give you breast cancer.

As unpleasant as menopause is, it’s a fact of life that every woman will eventually have to deal with.

So the question is, is there a way to get through menopause and still feel ‘normal’? While the idea of, ‘normal’ may vary from woman to woman, a study published through Harvard Health, shared a few ideas around dealing with the symptoms of menopause that just might help you feel like your old self again.

Hot flashes: Although hot flashes can begin before menopause is in full swing, this horrible side-effect can last anywhere from 3-5 years. Symptoms include pink or flushed face, an elevated body temperature, moderate to extreme sweating, night sweats and sleep disturbances. While there is no sure way to rid yourself of hot flashes completely, the following approaches are suggested to help alleviate:

  • Avoid triggers such as hot beverages, spicy foods, hot rooms, alcohol and stressful situations.
  • Dress in layers. This allows you to remove clothing when you become overheated and put them back on once your body has cooled.
  • Sleep with an ice pack under your pillow.
  • Keep your bedroom a few degrees cooler with a fan or portable air conditioner.
  • Reduce stress by doing yoga at night or performing 15 minutes of meditation before bed.

Mood Changes: Because the estrogen in your body is decreasing, the lining of you vagina becomes thin, creating less natural lubrication in the area. The increased dryness can not only be uncomfortable in day-to-day situations, leading to irritation and inflammation, it can also make sexual intercourse quite unpleasant. To treat vaginal dryness, the following is suggested.

  • Use a vaginal lubricant regularly to treat dryness.
  • Use a vaginal moisturizer such as Replens, to help keep dryness at bay.
  • Use estrogen creams, rings and tablets, to stop dryness before it begins.

In addition to regular treatment, studies also suggest engaging in regular sexual stimulation to maintain vaginal health as well as elasticity. Queen Bee Biz’s take on this: I was excited to hear about this treatment.

Mood swings and depression: Due to the extreme shift in hormones, many women experience mood swings and depression. Try incorporating these habits to alleviate symptoms:

  • Get regular sleep.
  • Add exercise to your daily schedule; cardio and strength.
  • Add yoga to alleviate stress.
  • Incorporate herbal supplements such as St. John’s Wort to help give balance to mood swings.
  • Request a mild antidepressant from your doctor to raise serotonin levels and alleviate depressed feelings.

Queen Bee Biz’s take on this: Exercise is crucial during this time of your life! Vicki and Cheri exercise regularly and definitely notice the difference when they don’t. Even if all you do is walk for 30 minutes a day, it will help you in the long run. Weight Gain: While it seems as though weight gain is a lifelong issue for most women, fighting the, ‘middle aged spread,’ during menopause is almost inevitable. To help you get your sexy back, here are a few suggested tips:

Add or increase exercise to your daily schedule.

  • Focus on cardio exercise; walking, running, swimming, to help prevent fat accumulation around the mid-section.
  • Eat healthy. Avoid processed foods, excess refined carbohydrates and excessive amounts of caffeine and alcohol.

Dry skin and hair: No matter what our age, as women we always like to keep our hair and skin in check. However, a decline in estrogen often causes both hair and skin to become a bit dry and dull. To combat, try the following:

  • Protect skin from the sun by using sun blocks, hats and protective clothing.
  • Use moisturizer daily to hydrate skin.
  • Use deep moisturizing conditioners regularly and avoid the overuse of heat styling.
  • Use the newest oils, both for skin and hair, to restore gloss and radiance.

Queen Bee Biz’s take on this: Your food intake creates most of the results you receive. Cheri had a heart attack in 2012 and keeps her blood thin, cholesterol in a good range, and blood pressure under control with her food combinations and supplements. She does NOT take any drugs! It can be done. Eating mostly plant based and organic will provide your body with the proper nutrients it needs to function to the best of it’s ability.

There is no, ‘cure’ for menopause and certainly no way to stop it from coming, you can still live a normal and happy life.

You may feel as though Menopause is a viscous trick by Mother Nature, however, by incorporating some of these tips, you can, at the very least, give a shout out to Mother Nature letting her know that she hasn’t quite gotten the best of you yet!

Women Feeling Frustrated & Unfulfilled!

We were astonished to discover in a U.S. General Social Survey, taken over a 40 year period starting in 1972, that women’s happiness declines as they age. After the age of 47, men are happier than women. Hey, that’s not fair, we took on more responsibilities and they’re happier!

In another study on women’s happiness, these questions were asked.
Have you ever ask yourself these questions?

  • How satisfied are you with your marriage?
  • How satisfied are you with the things you own?
  • How satisfied are you with your finances?

Research confirms, once again, women begin their lives more satisfied than men, and wind up less satisfied after the age of 47. We knew there had to be something going on, because we felt the frustrations, too.

We share our mid-forties experiences and frustrations in this video.

Both of us had slightly different life paths, however, we both started having thoughts during our 40’s that allowed us to go down the same path for the answers. We didn’t want to be that “grumpy old woman”, we just wanted to Bee Happy, but not sure what to do about it. Now we know! We’ll share those secrets with you in the other two videos. We all have good friends we have grown up with or met at work, socially or school. What makes good friends are our experiences with them. Sharing our lives with these friends is what life is all about and creates happiness for everyone.

I love going to high school, family, or college reunions because of the sharing of these stories. These happy stories make us who we are and give us great Joy!

Vicki’s Journey to JOY!

Are you ready to start your journey to joy? I was not ready to begin my journey until I was 46 years old, my Peri-menopause time. It was the perfect timing for me. My youngest was 17 years old. My husband had retired from the Air Force. He had been working for Federal Express as a pilot for about 2 years. I felt like I was a little bit lost. I had been a military wife and a mother of three kids- my identity was my family.

At that time, I had I tried a few MLM to start a business on my own but that was not it. I wanted something but did not know what. Soon my son would be out of the house and off to college. What would life be like for me?  My loving husband was back flying and living his dream but what was my dream? I spent nearly 25 years supporting my husband’s dream and my children’s dreams. Was it time for my dreams- did I have a dream which did not involved with being a Wife or Mother. I felt an edginess in my life, I knew I needed a change.

With my MLM businesses, I discovered, in order, to grow a successful business one needed to dream about being successful and why I wanted the success.  I learned “what you think about is what you bring about”, the Universal Law of Attraction. The one good thing that came from these businesses was the personal growth training I was introduced to while learning the business. I discovered I did not care to do the business but I was excited about my own personal growth. I learned successful people set goals and their beliefs allowed success or doomed them to failure. I, also, experienced, life-changing tools to help me break out of the old non-productive beliefs to create new empowering ones.

That was just the beginning. Once I got on my path to personal growth, I read books and took a few courses, like Queen Bee Biz courses.  After attending a life-changing weekend personal growth course, I was astounded to discovered that I was was just at the very beginning of my journey to my joy. I had a long way to go and I did not want to spend a minute longer feeling limited, contracted and lost. I was ready to “To Bee all I can Bee”!

Meanwhile, my husband who was living his dream saw changes in me, he was starting to get worried about me. I was taking time for myself and spending money on myself. Something I had never really done before. I had a “give-it-your-all and ask for nothing” belief from my mother about you give everything to everyone else- because that’s what mothers do. Now here I was making decisions to spend a few thousand dollars on the next 7 day workshop in California. Yep-  I made the decision without him. It was very not like me at the time. I was changing right before his eyes! Happiness and fulfillment here I come!

The day after I had paid for this expensive course, my husband and I took a stroll around the block. We got into a serious discussion about me signing up for the course without speaking to him first. My husband had always been a generous but logical man. He was worried I was not making the right decision and that I did not discuss it with him first.  In our 25 year marriage, he was always the logical one and I felt he knew best with his logic. Here I was struggling to find my voice and explained my need to grow to become wise and wonderful woman. I wanted my life after forty and raising my kids to be a fabulous one! I was worth it!

Vicki continues her Journey to Joy!

We sat done on the curb under a shade tree and I started to explain what was happening to me. I told him I want to be happy and love myself. I wanted to have fun in my life. It was not that I was unhappy – I just knew it could be better. I did not know how. I had two over-forty role models in my life, my mother and his mother. With tears in my eyes, I continued, “My mother is unhappy and complains about everyone and everything when we are around. She has stopped dreaming and doesn’t seem too happy to me.” Then I shared, your mother as much as I love her, fights depression. Again, not the best role models for happiness after 40. I took his hand and looked into his eyes and asked him this. “Which one do you want to grow old with the grumpy one or depressed one?”  He was quiet. I continued,” I am working on myself, so I become neither! I don’t want my next 40 years feeling crappy.”  I just knew if I keep taking these course, like our “Bee Happy Online Course” , reading the books, and using the tools I was given I could be happy and fulfilled.  We could have fun and enjoy life together to the end.  Once he understood where I was coming from, I received his complete support.
